Everything You Need to Know About Midwifery

You can self-refer to a midwife even if you have already been seen by a doctor.

You can choose where you want to birth your baby, at home or hospital. Grow Midwifery has privileges at CGH and ARH.

Midwives offer the same tests and procedures as doctors in BC and can prescribe medications for pregnancy and postpartum related concerns.

MIDWIFERY IS COVERED BY THE MEDICAL SERVICES PLAN IN BC.

You can have a natural birth, choose pain medication, and undergo a c-section with your midwife.

Midwifery is based on a respect for pregnancy as a state of health and childbirth as a normal process, and a profound event in a woman’s life.

MIDWIVES ARE EXPERTS IN NORMAL BIRTH.

Regardless of your socio-economic circumstance, midwives work to promote a healthy pregnancy to ensure you give birth safely, with power and dignity.

Midwives actively encourage informed choice by providing complete, relevant, objective information to help you and your family make decisions that are right for you.

MIDWIVES PROVIDE COMPREHENSIVE PRIMARY CARE THROUGH PREGNANCY, LABOUR, AND BIRTH TO 6 WEEKS POSTPARTUM.

BC midwives are regulated by the College of Midwives of BC and meet comprehensive standards for training and experience.

Midwives are integrated into the BC health care system, consulting and working collaboratively with doctors and other healthcare professionals in our community.

WE BELIEVE THAT OUTREACH WITHIN OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY AND TO IMPOVERISHED COUNTRIES WORLDWIDE IS THE KEY TO GROWING AWARENESS IN WOMAN’S HEALTH, AND PRESERVING NORMAL BIRTH.
