Midwifery care is available by self-referral and is covered by the Medical Services Plan in British Columbia.
Comprehensive primary care
Midwives provide care through pregnancy, labour and birth to six weeks postpartum. You can choose where you want to birth your baby, at home or in hospital, and midwives can arrange the same tests and procedures as doctors in BC.
Experts in normal birth
Midwifery respects pregnancy as a state of health and childbirth as both a normal process and a profound event. Midwives encourage informed choice by providing complete, relevant and objective information.
BC midwives are regulated and work collaboratively with doctors and other healthcare professionals.
